I would like to replace my '04 9-5 Aero within the year. I want AWD. Door #1 is an A4 but I don't want to spend $25k+ and I'm not really ready to leave the brand (Also, a 210hp 2.0T...? Boring). Door #2 is an '08-09 9-3 Aero XWD, 6-spd manual (maybe a Turbo-X if one pops up with low mileage).
Six months ago another Saab was out of the question, but I'm much more comfortable with the state of the parts company, and Mitchell Saab is quite literally in my back yard and doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
The 2.8t seems to have proven reliable, but there aren't many posts about the XWD system, and the few posts that DO exist are a bit critical of the rear differential's reliability. Something about a seal problem, and leaking fluid, and eventual failure with replacement to the tune of multiple thousands of dollars. Are these isolated instances, and if the seals have been replaced is it safe?
Thanks!
