I have been looking into used 2.0 9-3's lately. I own 2 9-5s. I have read posts on here about the timing or balance chain tensioners and chain guides breaking on the Ectotec motor. From what I have read it seems as though there are some warning signs like either engine vibrations or ticking from the engine. Are there always warning signs? I was also wondering if there have been situations where because of this the timing gets messed up right away and valves and pistons collide causing the need for big $$ head repairs or is it more of a situation where if you have warning signs you better get it taken care of soon otherwise you will definitely have a damaged head later.
