tends toward the narrow end. 205-55-16 tires can typically be mounted on 5.5 inch to 7.5 inch rims, with 6.5 inches being the "measuring" width (i.e., the one where the cross section most closely matches the label). 205-60-15, the measuring rim width is typically 6 inches with the same 5.5 to 7.5 inch allowable rim width. By comparison, for the stock size, 215-55-16, the allowable range is 6 to 7.5 inches, with a 7 inch "measuring" width. This is for the first tire on Tire Rack's list, a Fuzion. The OE supplier Pirelli has the same spec on it's "P-7".
So yeah, 205 width snows will fit fine on the OE 6.5" rims. Try to find an "XL" load rating.
