2003+ Purchase Input

I'll keep this short... I've owned a few c900, NG900, 9-5 (recently, quickly sold). I like the styling of the 2003+ 93. I want a modern vehicle. I am not interested in OG 93 as I want a more modern vehicle. I have been in a VW Jetta 2.0 5 speed and love the car. Once all belts were changed is has been very reliable. I often compare it to a tractor. My Jetta is pretty beat up and getting old though.
I'm in the market for a newer nicer vehicle. I've been looking at 2005-2007 BMW 328, 2005-2007 Audi TT. I'm finally making decent cash so I can afford financing a new vehicle. I like new cars but I was thinking instead of financing a new BMW I could buy a 2003-2007 93 for about $5000 cash. So.... are these cars nice and reliable? I generally would pick up a 5 speed but I know the Aisin autos are good. I've considered this option but I don't wanna sacrifice a nice performance vehicle (BMW) to save a few thousand dollars. Any input here?
