The V6 ? This is a sweeeeeet engine, lots of torque, very smooth, loves to rev, and if it's a manual, it's a very nice pair. But it's thirsty for such a small car, and the small gas tank means you'll fill her up each week. That is especially true is your day trip is short and in town. But I read that you drive a lot, so expect mid 20's on the highway. I can't see how to crack the big 3-0 with the V6. Maybe by doing 55 tucked behind a semi ?
That being said, if you never had an AWD car, go for it. Have one, have fun in the snow, practice your scandinavian flick, and laugh at the other motorists at each red light. But beware that you'll have a few very intense moments when you'll arrive waaaayyy too fast in that corner because of AWD and those sticky Michelin Xice3. But because you were smart enough to NOT disable ESP, modern technology will save the day (and your pristine 9-3 bodywork). Ask me how I know...
The V6 has a big heart and a nice throaty sound, but in the end, the 2.0T XWD seems a better option for you. The only cloud is the 2.0T head/valve problem. A problem I'm sure you're already aware.
