My AutoZone tool did the job but the pegs did not drop in fully as you report. The pressure technique turned the piston back but slipped a couple of times. If I owned it, I would file the pegs a millimeter to get best fit. Luckily, it does turn easily with partial grab, pressure and alignment.
It was also the default pegs on the cast of the tool itself and none of the various optional size discs within the tool kit that was closest to use.
