I received my Trionic ECU Heat & Vibration Elimination Kit today Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 18 Jun 2021 09:25:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This kit is to eliminate ECU failure on the 2.0T engine attributed to heat or vibration caused by the mounting location and method used. The Part Number for this kit is #88800073. I am the first buyer for this kit at my local SAAB Indy Shop, they haven't even installed one yet (although the Shop owner told me he feels it should be mandatory on all cars) so I got special pricing from them.
Good News: Kit consists of three stand-off vibration mounts to isolate the ECU from engine vibrations and to allow for air passage on the back side to carry away heat, one slightly longer ground strap, and all required screws and nuts for installation.
Bad News: Some Nimrod thought it would be a good idea to omit all installation instructions by replacing them with a QR code! My Smart Phone does not have an internal QR reader. I have been unsuccessful in my half-hearted attempts to find a QRC application to upload on my phone. And I am proudly defiant to not adopt what I see as a useless technology. Besides, who wants to take a $1000+ iPhone into their greasy grimy engine bay, and then need to remove their gloves every time they need to swipe the screen to advance to the next of the many instruction pages, then re-glove their hands?
Luckily there is a URL provided on the QRC card so you can download the instructions for printing or, in my case, to my ToughBook Garage laptop.
Why am I doing this on a 15 year old car? Per the local Shop, ORIO cannot rebuild failed ECUs fast enough to keep up with demand. An ECU failure currently requires purchase of a used unit for rapid turn-around of a client's car, and it commonly requires purchase of 2 or 3 used ECUs before they find one that is operational! They had a pile of old ECUs sitting in the office this morning for to shipment to ORIO, who is buying back the failed units for rebuilding.
Link provided below for perusing instructions prior to purchase.
