Foolish incentives.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Mon, 27 Sep 2004 11:40:56 In Reply to: Incentives, Trudo, Mon, 27 Sep 2004 10:34:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What incentive would there be for a purchase in September, if October incentives were known in advance? Saab is very good at not tipping next months coming programs.
It can take a months and months, a quarter or more, to begin serious incentives on the new models, depending on the supply of last years remaining models.
One of the changes Saab is proposing is to support last years models better and longer when the new models come out and to be consistent about it. We'll see.
Strategy is simpler this year because there are no model changes, everything is a carryover, no fire sales, and from my view, no oversupply problems.
From my view I don't see incentives drasticly increasing on remaining '04s, they are at historicly record levels already, and there ain't all that many '04s left, it's been much worse in previous years.
Normally leases for next years cars, '05s in this case, get competitive fairly quickly owing to the increase in residuals. A 10% residual increase has roughly the same affect as a $3k incentive. I would expect this to happen in November, maybe, as Sept-Oct is kinda' all one month.
Of course it's in my best interest to make you believe all this and nobody can say for sure.
