That's what I've heard. The oil manufacturers, like Mobil, usually sell 0W oils as "newer car formulas". It could be that newer models just tend to be built to tighter tolerances than older ones. I don't think any car that's come from the factory with 0W oil has been around long enough to really see how they do over time with such thin oil. I run 0W-30 oil in my 1997 900 and haven't had any problems.
