What a hilarious thread. Everything in the responses except facts. Does none of them have access to independent test results to see whether the original poster's experience is even plausible? Do they *care* if it's plausible? (The Saab was chipped, You can chip a 2.7, Hey, I beat a Saab and now he won't even look at me....) They eventually bring $60+k BMWs into the discussion (think a 540i might beat an Aero at 150% of the price?). Sheesh.
After reading that thread I'm left feeling that after you buy your Audi, you're duty-bound to "chip" the thing--no matter what it might do to the warranty or the drivetrain. Why does Audi sell them the way they do, do Audi owners all think the parent corporation is misguided (yeah, yeah, to sell more V6s)? There is also a clear lack of understanding of how powerful and driveable contemporary turbocharged engines can be (ironic, given Audi's extensive turbo experience). I don't understand why some of these folks are even attracted to the line at all? Boy are they ever in for a surprise when the SVC cars hit the street w/ 225hp out of 1.7 liters.
FWIW when I drove the '99 NA A6Q it was clearly the slug of my admittedly large field of nominees; I've had faster rental cars, nice interior though. I'm sure the new ones are much speedier.
