I've been using a wax called Klasse All In One on my Saab for a while. It's really not a wax, but an acrylic sealant. The first advantage is that it provides paint protection for about 6 months. Second, it dries completely clear, meaning that it is invisible on black trim pieces. Klasse actually recommends that you wax your trim; I do this and it works great. Being able to just wax the entire car without worrying about hitting the trim makes things go a lot faster. It is on the expensive side ($20+ for 16oz), but a little goes a long way. I have heard that Klasse is availible at many BMW dealers (they use it to wax their cars on the lot), and can also be had some high-end auto detailing online shops like http://www.properautocare.com.
Of course, you'll want to remove any old wax residue from the plastic before you start with the Klasse. I find Back to Black works exceptionally well.
