Got one, so I would break even! Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Tue, 19 Jul 2005 09:16:01 In Reply to: Re: hedging one's bets, OKSaabs, Tue, 19 Jul 2005 08:41:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I look at it this way - I spend the money on preventive maintenance on the vehicle, and the warranty is prepaid for the big unexpected things. When I got mine last year, I ended up with the CPO warranty at a reasonable price rather than an aftermarket one. I added it into the base price of the car.
However, if you check the Consumer Reports satisfaction guide for the 1999 model year, you see a few items have the frowning symbol, especially electrical.
SAAB's are just like airplanes - you have good ones, and you have the others (wise words from my dad who was in the RCAF, and used to fix SNAG's on aircraft instrument and electrical systems). If you can check the service history on the one you want to buy, do it. If it is relatively clean, then proper p/m should keep you ahead.
No regrets - I had the right front headlight wiper motor go ($$$), and an oxygen sensor replaced, and a bit of trouble with the windshield wiper motor.
I suppose if you had a degree in actuarial science, you could figure all this out. Me, I am just a simple metallurgical engineer!
