They're a close second to the Nokains. If you're concerned about ice, stud them. Our Michelin Arctic Alpins are better on ice but not as good in the snow. We used the base size for the Gislaveds and they are great in the snow. They are mushy on dry pavement so you'll have to keep your speeds down when it's nice out. The Michelin Alpins drive more like an "all season" tire on dry pavement but have a little more extra bite in the snow and a lot more extra bite on the ice. The Alpins are easy to spin from a stop on dry pavement so the fronts haven't worn well.
Hope this helps,
Bill
