Answers to your questions :
1. I have the full leather seats, these come as standard on the UK spec Aero model. The leather is a little more "grained" than before, and I am sure the colour has changed - the previous charcoal always seemed a bit too "grey" for my liking, the new colour is alot darker - almost a soft black.
2. I have not got the touring package - when I ordered the car at the beginning of August I could not get any information or prices on these items - I was told that xenon lights would not be available until the end of the year, along with the rain sensors. As such I can't help you on the lights, except to say that the "standard" lights on the Saab are miles better than on my old Audi. I have a colleague who has a new Renault Laguna which has xenons, and they are quite spectacular - you really notice a distinct difference with them.
3. On the road price for 2002 Aero estate = £28,895 - £1000 more than the 2001 version.Initially I was told the c02 emissions were 209 ( important in the Uk due to new tax implications next year), they have now been confirmed at 214 - but this is still alot lower than the 2001 models 223 figure - it will save me quite a few £'s in tax over 3-4 years. An equivalent Audi / BMW would not only cost cosiderably more in the first place, but also have significantly higher co2 emissions - Saab have really done their homework here ( for the UK anyway )
4. The rattle is coming from either the stereo or a/c units within the dash - its more of a vibration than a rattle, perhaps something is loose or has not been fitted in tight enough ?
5. I have driven a 2001 Aero auto. So it is difficult to do a direct comparison on power as mine is a manual - the auto was quick, but this is jaw dropping quick. The pull in each gear is incredible, with an instant responce, and very smooth. I find myself running out of road, to be honest I am still adjusting to just how quick it is, after driving what I now know to be a relatively slow Audi V6 - I will have to watch those speed camera's more than ever.
The handling is also a big improvement, not that the 2001 was lacking in that area - it feels more "taught" and the grip is phenomenal, the steering feels more precise, but it is still quite light. The new ESP system seems to work well, although its not been really challenged yet - but I have not experienced any torque steer at all, which was a concern of mine with all that power going to the front wheels. The new system results in a slightly bumpier ride at lower speeds, but nothing uncomfortable - I think they have got the balance of sportiness / comfort just right - not like other equivalent offerings, I have driven both a standard Volvo T5 & T5R - both have a ride quality far too hard for my liking.
I think the car sits a little lower than the 2001 version, so you need to take extra care on all those speed bumps that litter the roads - but the lower height justs adds to the visual appeal of the car.
Hope this helps, sorry for "waffling" on - but i'm so impressed with the car I could go on for ever......
