Wonder if this affects the alarm Posted by NP [Email] (#244) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NP) on Sun, 29 Jan 2006 08:02:33 In Reply to: Re: Related problem, Larry in Philly, Tue, 24 Jan 2006 07:29:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Larry, your post made me realize something I'd never thought of. Indeed, my car never shows a trunk open light. So my car must think that the hatch is always closed, even when I'm unloading stuff from the back. On one hand, I can have a tailgate picnic without fear of draining the battery.
BUT, I wonder how this affects the alarm system. Here's what I've noticed--I open the tailgate to unload some groceries and I lock the car via the fob while I still have my hands free. If I take more than ~30 seconds to unload, the alarm goes off when I close the tailgate. This is pretty annoying, as it would make sense to me that the alarm should only activate after all the doors are closed. The other day I had armed the alarm, but later manually unlocked the tailgate to retrieve some items and when I closed the gate, it triggered the alarm.
I'm not sure if this is normal OR could it be that since the car always thinks the tailgate is closed that any manipulation of it is interpreted as a break-in attempt. Hmmmm...
