First, not all of the '99 SEs were 6 cylinders, Mike Lynch is correct on this point, the early '99s were 4 bangers. Second, the question in any case is: will it run? If the engine runs, then the valves are not bent and you may not be looking at a major engine job. Even if the engine won't start but turns over, you can tell if the valves are bent by the way it turns over. With bent valves, when you try to start the engine, the starter turns the engine very fast and with turbine like smoothness, because there is no compression in the cylinders.
