Got a Sirius radio for my birthday, it's the Starmate Replay ST2. I installed it yesterday and got it up and running, but have a few questions. I've done a search on it, and frankly my head was spinning a little bit with all the FM modulator vs. transmitter and hardwiring difficulties, etc.
I mounted the antenna on the roof, with the wire going in through the rear passenger side door. It snakes down around the rubber door seal to the base of the b-pillar, where it makes a short un-hidden run to the b-pillar trim. From there it is hidden under the trim up along the front door sill, inside the trap door under the glovebox, and then under the trim on the center console where the carpet ends. It hen comes out next to the little cubby hole and plugs into the reciever. Pretty clean, though the antenna is sorta ugly. Question: can the antenna just be mounted up on the front of the dashboard? Would it work ok there, or is the roof definitely the best location?
I found several reasonably empty FM staions (DC area) and the sound seems pretty good. There's some hiss at times, and I noticed a little crackling/rattling here and there. Of course I'd like to get as good sound quality as possible, though I have no desire to open up the stereo and do the soldering and whatnot I've seen referenced here before for getting it in throught the AUX input.
Anyone use a cassette deck adapter? Better than the built in FM or no difference?
In a thread back in October 2004, cryptical and a guy named Tom Scott discussed a hard-wired FM adaptor/modulator. In particular something called a SIRSWB and a Power Acoustik EFM-100 Modulator. Their discussion ended before they got into the details of how these things are installed. I am very interested to hear more details on those two options, assuming somebody's tried them out recently. Anyone?
Thanks,
jeff
