On eBay right now (as I write this) are two auctions for used-but-good pairs of used DICs for 9-5 V6s. Buy-It-Now price for a pair is $75.00 plus shipping.

A week ago, I bought a pair of used DICs from this same source on eBay for my '99 SE Sportwagon. (That auction page and the two up now are identical -- they all say that the used DICs are from a 2002 SE V6 with 44K miles, test good, and throw no codes. Obviously, we can ignore that information as bogus, since the DICs for all three auctions could not have come from the same car. But so what? These sellers clearly have a source for used V6 DICs.)

Mine haven't arrived yet, but I did get shipping confirmation via UPS.

eEuroparts has new replacement V6 DICs for $153.90 each with free shipping. One could argue that a new pair for $308 might be a safer bet than a used pair for $89 shipped. My thinking was that the V6 DICs are not as prone to catastrophic sudden failure as the early 4-cylinder DICs, so I felt fine buying a used pair and pocketing the more than $200 difference.

Keep in mind that after the recall period ends and in subsequent years, prices for replacement V6 DICs may eventually return to their earlier $400/each levels. That's meaningful for those of us who intend to own our 9-5s for a long time. Heck, for $89 I might even buy a second pair of used ones.

If you're interested, go onto eBay and do a search for "Saab direct ignition cassette V6." You'll come up with both auctions.

Whatever you decide -- new or used -- best of luck!
