I have only the 4-speed auto but I find it operates beautifully, no complaints at all. And longevity does not seem to be any issue with these or the 5-speed auto boxes.
My only dislike of any auto is that it's much more clumsy to downshift when approaching a corner if you want to feel the balance of the car on the throttle. Maybe this is better with the paddle shift 5-sp but I personally find it awkward on mine. So the sporting angle is somewhat reduced, but this after all is not a sports car.
Balance that against what I personally find is an unpleasant driving experience in a turbo manual car, when you get all this power, then shift and lose it all and have to wait a little while for it to come back on. I drove a manual Aero before I bought mine and didn't like it, even if I have always driven manuals before this. The manual Aero definitely felt a lot quicker though, from what I understand they tame the output a bit in the lower gears of the autos, mine seems to accelerate as had in 4th gear as it does in first! 70 to 100 mph is amazingly fast.
I'd take the auto again any time for this type of car.
Cheers
Steve
