I got rear-ended on the way home from work last night. An older Saturn hit me mainly because someone passed me on the right (where the right lane was ending) and traffic halted. No stopping space. The fabulous brakes on my 2002 9-5 Arc stopped the car instantly but the Saturn behind hit me. I kept going so traffic could keep rolling (US-26)and the Saturn followed me until there was an exit (Oregon Zoo). The Saturn had its nose caved in and the silver bumper on my SAAB was all scuffed up with black Saturn paint. The Saturn driver had no insurance but agreed to pay for damages. Oregon has a manditory insurance law. I drove to Kuni SAAB and their body shop was going to make an estimate. The estimator came out with some Meguire's swirl remover and polished the rear bumper. It looks quite good. Has one small gouge at the lower fold in the bumper and the black plastic along the bottom has some scrapes. Kuni Body Shop said "don't even try to fix it, Silver is a trick to get it right". Kuni felt there was no damage behind the bumper but wouldn't know for sure unless they took it off. So I drove home and polished the bumper with car wax and used some "Black restorer" on the black plastic which hides the scrapes pretty well. I'm thinking of letting the Guy off for no damages? I'm particular about my car but it also sounds like it's not worth repainting? They did tell me to repaint the bumper and replace the trim would be approximately %550. I don't know how difficult or how much it would be to replace the wrap-around black piece along the bottom edge of the bumper? Advice?
