Oil in (turbo?) hose

I noticed oil on a hose on my '99 V6. Lower section of large hose in front of the battery. I've worked a lot on 60's & 70's American cars, but this is my first foreign/turbo vehicle. The hose is a maybe 3" diameter rubber hose running from down below to up in front of the battery, thru a metal connector/component, and up to the intake manifold area. The oil was on the outside of that connector (which also has a metal tube coming into it, as well as a couple electric sensors/sending units.) As I took the upper hose off, I saw the oil was inside that upper hose dripping downward a little. Is this a serious issue? Where is the oil coming from? Note, the inside of that metal unit looked very clean. The lower hose looked clean too. And the metal tube running across the front of the engine into this connector also was clean. Sorry I can't describe better... need a diagram! (if anyone can point me to a website for that I'd appreciate that too)
Thanks,
Jim
