As one who knows the difference between anecdote and research, I second what Paul O. has said. I like AMSOIL and use that in my Harley because it only gets serviced once a season, but I use Mobil 1 in my cars because it is easier to find locally.
I was an AMSOIL dealer for many years, and have read what they call research - but what a researcher would call corporate advertising. The differences in the various tests are not insignificant - nor can one overlook the fact that the studies (such as they are) were sponsored by the company.
Now the same thing happens in medicine (the field in which I work) - and the number of times when flawed studies have resulted in a change in practice/protocol would (should) cause more than a few eyebrows to raise.
Oil preference is a guaranteed post-generator on every BBS. Pick a good oil (including either of the two that have been mentioned), and change it every once and a while. Your car will be fine....
