I was too vague earlier. There is no question that the 9-5 drives better than the Mazda 6 (BUT not the MazdaSpeed6). NO QUESTION. IMHO the MazdaSpeed6 is a VERY strong car for the money, but it still feels Japanese (meaning that I just cannot connect with the car; looks good on paper and drives/handles well, but I like the feel of European cars). However, the new Jetta drives very close to the BMW (except during spirited driving sessions, but it's close). It has a level of refinement that Saab can't touch with any of it's current models (the new Camry is strong here, but NO comparison to the 95 when driving).
I was speaking about features/gadgets (auto up windows, remote start, auto up/down from outsize the car, etc). It frustrates me that Saab won't step up their game here.
I'm looking for another car to put some miles on. I drive 25,000 a year and I need something that I enjoy driving while being comfortable. However, even on my daily commute, I will sometimes take that back road to get some fun driving in. Appliances and other letter cars need not apply.
I'm not looking for the 9-5 to match the BMW. It cannot in any area (except the seats where I think that Saab is the best of any car that I have been in).
I found 1 manual Aero in a 100 miles radius (of course it is 100 miles away). TONS of automatics. Main concerns about not going certified are: Sludge and /good saab/bad saab. It seems that you either get a great one or a crap one, no in between (though I may be wrong here, just reading the boards). Also, I'm concerned about the SID and DIC problems. There is no way that either should be problems anymore as long as this car has been in service. This is very similar to GM with the VERY WEAK Grand Prix transmissions 97-03 (known problems but refuse to do anything about it).
