ATF questions - longish

Hi gang.
I have a few questions about the correct fluid. The transmission isn't shifting so smoothly, seems to clunk into 1st as I slowly coast down a hill in the neighborhood or approaching a stop. I don't seem to have problems in any other gears and or accelerating, MY 2002 Aero auto.
I am planning on doing a triple flush this weekend, (drive and drain 3 times) to completely exchange the fluid. I have read on this board that that is the only way to really get all new ATF into the transmission.
First question, for auto transmission, the OM says top off with Saab 3309, it does not list any substitute. For a manual transmission, OM says Dextron III can be substituted if original fluid cannot be found. It doesn't say that for auto, so I'm a little worried, much too late though. The indy mechanic where I get service (Saab specialist) listed Dextron ATF, (nothing more) on the invoice when I had him flush last July, 4 quarts listed. Have I done some damage here? Is there a Dextron 3309 equivalent that he used and I needn't worry?
Second question, the Saab dealer in town charges $18.00 per quart for 3309. I know it can be purchased on line for about $5.00 pq. Isn't there a Toyota equivalent I can buy locally?
Third and fourth, how many quarts do I need for the triple flush and where is the drain plug?
Thanks a bunch gang.
