Replacing Saab badge

Some reprobate removed/stole the Saab-Scania badge on the rear of my 2000 Aero last week. I bought a new original badge (from an Internet site) which arrived yesterday.
It appears that the only thing that will keep it stuck to the rear of the car is a grey band of "sticky stuff" round the edge. The problem is that it doesn't seem to be extremely adhesive - more or less as adhesive as these plastic hooks you can stick on your bathroom wall (and which fall off as soon as you hang a towel on it).
Does anyone have any experince in sticking such a badge unto the car? Will it really stay in place - or should it be heated or something?
Thanks for your replies!
Caspar
