If my aging memory serves me right, it seems there was an article in the Nines magazine a while back (1-2 yrs?) where the author actually took apart several oil filters.
There was a clear advantage to the UK AC/Delco filters, but one has to be careful and look at the box to find out where it is made. The local Wal-Mart sells the "USA" brand (kind of interesting when you consider where most of their other stuff comes from....), but their K-Mart competitor sells the UK version at the same price.
The Fram filter was at the bottom of the pile. Seems like there was another national brand (perhaps NAPA?) that scored well, too. Probably someone on this BB has the article handy and can correct any mistakes brought on by my aging memory.
Personally, I've been using the AMSOIL filters for the past couple of years. I have never cut into one personally, but have been satisfied with their other products enough to stick with that brand.
