As of Monday, July 23, 2007 I am no longer in possession of my 2003 9-5 Arc V6 as it is a total loss. It was rear-ended while I sat stationary on a highway due to the truck in front of me losing its load, and I was hit from behind by an SUV going 50 MPH. The car performed fabulously and took the impact mainly in the trunk and back seat area. The driver/passenger area was untouched. At impact, the seatbelt system retracted and sucked me into the seat with extreme tension. It was so tight that it would not release, and I could not reach my emergency seat-belt cutter that was in my side pocket. I would advise storing it in the center console area.
Immediately after impact, the car's computer started talking to me, stating something like "collision system activated" and, although I do not subscribe to OnStar, an OnStar operator came on and told me that 911 has been notified of my accident and exact location and help was on the way.
I have no broken bones, no cuts (although the back windshield was blown out) and only bruises where the seatbelt held be in. I believe if it hadn't been for the safety features of that car, that I would have been seriously hurt. I do have some recuperation to go through since it did leave me with whip lash and back strain, but I was very lucky.
It has been great listening to all of your wisdom and advice. Thank you all for your feedback and please keep up the good work helping folks with their Saabs.
Drive safe,
Cheryl
