Saab found problems with two customer cars at very low to no speed (parking) in which there are steering issues. If your 9-5 is within the following VIN range, you are affected, although since this problem is so new, your dealer may or may not be aware of it yet.
The affected cars have a VIN number that falls between:
XXXXX23006889 to XXXXX23018508

Saab recalls over 6000 cars
[body]
Saab recalls 6 351 Saab 9-5 cars of MY 2002, of which 2 453 have been sold in Sweden.
The vehicles may have a quality problem that affects the steering ability.
- We found a suspected problem in two customer vehicles just before christmas, so we have been working the whole holidays to pinpoint the problem, says Christer Nilsson (press guy, Saab automobile).

9-5 MY 2002 can loose steering ability
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The vehicles that are being recalled have a VIN that have been sold in 41 countries world wide. About 2500 owners are affected in the Swedish marketplace.
- We'll call people up and send a letter to those that we can't reach that way, says Christer Nilsson.
The suspected material breakdown in two vehicles, one in Belgium and one in Italy, was discovered just before the christmas holidays.
- The drivers have during low speed parking maneuvers lost steering capability on one wheel, but there haven't been any serious accidents with personal injuries says Christer Nilsson.
Problem with a subcontractor
The error have been pinpointed to a lacking manufacturing process at one of Saabs subcontractors.
According to Saab, it's most likely that the faulty part would break at low speed and typically during parking maneuvers, as the largest stress is put on the faulty detail during those conditions.
Saab looks serious on the issue.
- We didn't want to take a chance in any way, so the company management immidieately took the decision to make a recall when we realized the extent of everything, says Christer Nilsson.
Saab ser allvarligt på det inträffade.
The problem can be addressed in a couple of errors. No renumeration is payed out.
Thinks of it as a security measure
Since the problem was discovered, Saab has been working with analyzing the problem and getting a substitution material.
So far, no vehicles in Sweden have encountered the problem.
- We see it as a security measure where we with great openness against both society and our customers want to protect our good name. We are taking the consequences of having delivered cars which had this problem, says Christer Nilsson.
Saab doesn't have any plans of discontinuing their parnetship with the subcontractor.
- But he will get his fair share of the problem, says Christer nilsson.
