I bought my 1999 9-5 new and have really enjoyed it. I decided recently to pass it down to my 16 year old daughter after 130,000 good miles. I was seriously looking at an '05 convertible.
Being a concerned dad, I took my 9-5 to a local mechanic here in Charlotte for a 120K routine, replace the washer reservoir ( i supplied parts), fix the rollers and regulators in two front windows, replace the pcv valve, replace front and rear brakes and take care of three or four other odds and ends. My bill came to over $1,500 and I still have to replace the brake booster and repair the SID to get the car completely up to snuff.
The first thing I said when I got the bill was, "I am buying a hyundai for my next car, forget the 9-3 convertible".
I have loved my saab, but, it is ridiculous to pay $1,500 to repair a car that CarMax would not give me $4,000 for.
As for Hyundai, it doesn't compete with the sexiness of a saab. If you are seriously considering a small SUV like the CRV, Murano, etc. you would do yourself a HUGE favor to drive the santa fe. It is a very, very nice car at a great price.
As one of the previous posters mentioned, ya'll better watch out for the Koreans. This ain't the 1986 Hyundais just like the Lexus isn't a 74
civic. They are doing a lot of things right.
