Camber! When you drive on a road that has a slight camber on one side,ie. the road surface is not perfectly flatacross it's width, the steering wheel will tend to point towards the high side. If you are in England, and the left edge of the road surface is slightly lower than the center, where your right wheel is, the steering wheel is probably turned slightly right.
When you are on a perfectly flat surface, which is what is simulated on the alignment rack, the wheel should be perfectly straight. This is a common malady of Chapman strut front suspension cars, and for whatever reason, Saabs tend to have it a little more than some other cars. Whenever I have had a car that has the wheel even slightly off center,it has been a hot button for me as well, and my mechanic explained it to me like this. Any others have similar findings?
