hit the track with one yet (since they just hit the showroom), but will be able to translate the difference when the chance arises. On the street, though, the torque and horsepower increase is phenominal. The most obvious (and enjoyable ) difference for me is the increase in braking stability. Between the larger brakes and the stiffer suspension, hard braking from higher speeds is much more controlled and precise. The lack of 'nose dive' adds huge amounts of braking confidence.
As far as street driving, the '02 is much quicker and much more fun to drive (don't misunderstand me, the previous Aero is a wonderful car also) than even my Viggen Covertible? It has 85% of the accceleration without a hint of torque steer. Being built on a newer platform, it is slightly more refined.
Even though I prefer a manual, I have been overly impressed with the new Auto Gearbox. I think that single-handedly the gearbox is probably the most surprising and noticable change. The previous 9-5 transmission was great, and this new trans. makes the old one look bad.
Overall, it is a spectacular car at a spectacular price. It surprised me when I received my pricing this year. I never would have suspected that a loaded Aero minus the Xenon's would actually be available for under $41k.
Cheers,
Brian.
