Maybe a dealer mechanic could figure it out in less time than it takes to smoke a cigarette ;o)
Jokes aside.
When the old turbo shaft failed, the seals got trashed too so while the engine was still running, a lot of oil was still circulating around the turbo shaft and that gets blown into the intercooler.
That's why you need to loosen the hoses from the intercooler and drain as much as possible and also use a radiator/cooler cleaning agent to flush the intercooler.
One thing you don't want is to have pieces from the trashed impellers to go through the intake system and into the engine (which has happened many times with unsuspecting mechanics).
It is no secret that the turbo seals are a lot worse in the 9-5 compared to the old C900/NG900 and 9000 but no one knows the real reason why they go bad.
As I said, if the intercooler is full of oil together with the exhaust system and mufflers, it will take a long time before the smokes clear even with a new turbo.
