It also adjusts the throttle range (hope that's the correct term :) and supplies richer mixture to the engine (I have heard). After using the sport mode for a while, the normal mode feels like if there was a rubber band somewhere in the transmission.. :) Haven't tried it on my Aero yet (trying to keep it below 5000 rpm for 3000 km like the manual suggests).
(Taking a bit longer to accelerate to 180-190 km/h this way.. ;-)
