Changed Alarm Batteries but still "Service Theft Alarm"

I had been seeing the "Service Theft Alarm" msg occasionally for the past 6 months. Bought the replacement batteries but didn't attempt the repair until the other day when the alarm went off in a parking lot and would not turn off thru the normal methods- had to pull the fuse under the hood. So then I went thru the procedure of pulling the alarm module, unsoldering/removing the batteries (which by the way, mine were also glued to the circuit board and pretty difficult to remove, trying not to damage the board) and replaced them with the new ones. Afterwards everything seemed fine again, but a day or so later I got the "Service Theft Alarm" msg on the SID again! It's popped up about 3 times now in the week since I've changed the batteries. Besides the possibility of bad batteries, is there something else that could be the problem here? FYI, the polarity was definitely correct as the batteries only connect in one direction, and my regular car battery is fine as that was replaced just last summer. Thanks!
