I have the PIP Technical Advice, it even has photo of the steering column spline taken apart. It was issued by Drew Chambers on 2002-04-05, it even has the Part number for the lub as P/N 30 06 582.

Clicking noise from steering column
THIS TA IS TO BE USED INSTEAD OF TA 641 - W042
CARS AFFECTED
All 9-5's
BACKGROUND
Customers can complain of a knocking in the steering wheel.
CONDITIONS
A clicking noise appears with a knock that can be felt in the steering wheel when
accelerating / decelerating.
SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION
A stick slip effect can be felt from the splines connection in the lower part of the
intermediate shaft.
ACTION
To solve the problem, please follow the steps below.
1. Take off the panel lower section.
2. Loosen the intermediate shaft from the steering gear assembly and mark up the
positioning with a pen how
the shaft was assembled in the splines.
3. Protect the area from oil spill.
4. Separate the lower and upper part.

5. Lubricate both inner and outer splines on the shaft using P/N 30 06 582
6. Assemble both parts of the shaft according to the positioning mark and check that it's
gliding back and forwards smoothly.
7. Assemble the shaft to the steering gear pinion, not forgetting the washer on the screw.
Use a torque wrench (27Nm)
8. Refit the lower panel.
9. Test drive the car to make sure that the problem is gone.
