Coming home from school this afternoon somewhere along the line the bottom outer shell of my rear muffler detached itself and dangled making a terrible sound until I was able to pull over and rip it off. It's probably fine for now with the inner shell still there, but the top is basically rusted through and it's rattling like hell at idle. I don't want to (cannot) afford the $280 oem thing from Saab, so what are my alternatives? The middle muffler has some rust but is fine, so I cannot justify getting the full cat-back sport thing for $600. Has anyone ever taken their Saab to a muffler shop like Midas and had them put in a Flowmaster and weld on the oem tips? I don't want to lose them. It's a 2001 V6 so it's got those nice polished chrome-looking double tips. Any idea on a cost? I guess it wouldn't hurt to call around. Thanks.
