Some thoughts from my experience on a 9000 Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Fri, 4 Jan 2008 18:41:15 In Reply to: albany and others with BASSLINK, n8, Fri, 4 Jan 2008 14:02:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It doesn't really matter what the car is, the installation is pretty much the same. So here goes...
1.) I ran a wire directly to the battery. I didn't trust the trailer wiring. It took me maybe 10 minutes, probably the easiest part of the installation. Shouldn't be too different in the 9-5.
2.) I've read and reread, but I still don't get what you're getting at. Here's what I did: I have good aftermarket MB Quart speakers, so I just tapped into their rear crossovers. Basically, all this step involves is sticking the Infinity-provided wire into the crossover (or in your case, the speaker) connection somehow. One for the Left Rear, one for the Right Rear. Then that gets plugged into the Universal Interface connection marked REAR on the Basslink. I didn't feel like exerting the effort to run wires up front, which you don't have to do. Just leave it at that.
3.) Definitely leave the rear speakers in. It will sound like crap without them.
4.) I grounded to a screw that was under the carpet right near where I placed the sub. There are plenty of options. Use a multimeter to test for ground, and use the one closest/most convenient for you.
FYI, even though it says you won't need the remote turn-on lead when using speaker-level inputs, you may need it. In my case, the sub just wouldn't turn on until I connected the remote turn-on wire. This happened to several other people I know as well. I just connected it to the antenna motor which gets power when the HU is turned on, but you don't have an antenna motor! You may need to run the turn-on lead to the HU itself if it won't power itself up when connected to the speakers.
Also, I would recommend using the remote adjustment. The Basslink is pretty sensitive, so I find myself adjusting it all the time.
Good luck! If any difficulties pop up or you have have any more questions, feel free to email me.
