The dual o-rings on thermostat tube can really grab inside the thermostat housing and in some cases, Saab used a glue too that might have left rough edges outside the o-rings.
You need to use some kind of pry bar to get some force on there to separate.
I advice you to remove the upper radiator hose and replace it since I have seen a rash of blown uppers lately on the V6.
It is a lot easier to install everything but I advice you to tighten down the bolt for tube and the two bolts for thermostat in sequence so that you don't put a kink/pressure in the tube and o-rings. If so they might start to leak.
If you slowly ease all three bolts down at the same time, everything finds its even place without tweaking anything.
