Hi,
Ok so I took of the upper radiator hose. This way the tube and thermostat were free to move through the 'tunnel'
Subsequently Itried to wiggle it loose again, to no avail. Then I put a very wide open-end wrench over the pipe, behind the flange that attaches it to the engine front. I bolted down the Tstat. Using the top of the engine as a leverage point I pulled the pipe towards the front of the car.
The flange broke right off.
The good news is that I eventually managed to separate the pipe from the Tstat, only because the hole that was now in the pipe could be used as leverage point for a metal bar, and I could hammer it out, requiring considerable force still.
Getting the pipe out posed another challenge, but I could pull it up and out, just clearing the top of the fan housing and radiator by slightly lifting the engine with a trolly jack. It only needed 1/4 inch of lift.
The hard part will be to get a replacement tube. In my neck of the woods there is an abundance of Opel dealers, so no big deal I thought and indeed I managed to locate the pipe for the Omega MV6.
Still wasn't easy, the Opel dealer told me it took them 2 months before these got delivered, but then they got 3, just in case. He looked happy with a prospective customer for one of the remaining tubes, because, who ever needs one? Well, me neither it turned out.
This is one of the parts that is different from the Opel variant. Since the Saab got the turbo bolted on, there is a small coolant pipe soldered into the end of the big pipe, to accomodate cooling of the turbo. The 'generic' part does not have this.
So I'm stuck with the dealer for this part, It's cheap and they are very helpful, would take 3 days, but I wonder if this part will be available in short notice at all....
To be continued, (at least, I hope so...)
