Help with ignition lock assembly removal

I'm having a bit of trouble removing the ignition lock assembly (please see image below courtesy of B Millar).
Has anyone done this? I followed the instructions, but am not having much luck with it--my problem is that I'm not sure exactly where the catch spring that I'm supposed to release is. Is it underneath the cylinder (in other words, am going in below the cylinder and pushing up?) or is it off to the left or right side of the cylinder, or is it straight inside the hole?
Thanks much in advance.
Regards,
Scott
