Is it an option???? I mean GM/Saab wants dealers to sell CPO or not, not as an option with a separate price, but there are reneged dealers out there who do it their own way. $1,500 is just about cost or a little less for the warranty plus the required 3 hour inspection. You can't just go to Saab dealer and have a car CPO'd, a Saab dealer has to buy and sell it.
So as warranties go, considering the fixed term of 6/100 and the broad coverage, $1,500 is a steal and actual cost. Same warranty from GM Protection Plan, which is also a good warranty, is a thousand dollars more. And if the GM dealer is a stickler for GMPP policy, your Saab is only eligible for the first 3/36, you're at 33, so you might try a GM/Caddy/GMC dealer and see what they say. Or Marvin K. Brown, a site sponsor and my old haunt will sell you one.
Most fastidious Saab owners seem to do alright on the return of an extended warranty. Or in other words it makes you wonder how the warranty folks make a profit.
But yes it's perfectly OK to buy a car without an extended warranty. You've still got plenty of factory warranty to try and break things, and you same a big chunk of change.
