00 Aero 52k
94 9000 non turbo 151k
First of all the Aero is much faster and brakes better. The interior is flashy with leather and the wood dash, a more refined car. Better mileage. Exterior appearance is striking.
I think the 9000 is a better car in many ways. Despite the non-turbo it will still cruise at high speeds nicely, and I think that the seats are more comfortable. Maybe I am being nostalgic, but I like the austere appearance, and the car just seems to have the feel of a higher quality automobile.
GM seems to have had quite an influence on the Aero, with areas such as the passenger dash looking "Buick" like. The turn signal switch is not great, nor is the headlight switch, among other little things. Is it me, or are the leather seats too soft?
Don't get me wrong here, I did still buy a Saab and I enjoy getting in it and driving too fast. I just don't get into the 9000 and feel like I am taking a step back. I do worry a bit about Saab management. I think they would do well to jump hook, line, and sinker into the green movement, using turbo charging and diesel to market themselves as the fun to drive eco friendly car--kind of a "find your own road into the future" theme. Dump the SUV and focus on making their two models charismatic, economical and reliable. Hatchback ???
