I'm with you, I'm going to drain the coolant tonight before I pull the cover off. I'll leave the engine oil alone.
I don't know how common this leak is, but I did find several other mentions in the forum.
My local independent wanted $1000 for the job...another $500 (in parts) if the oil cooler is trashed and needed to be replaced. I decided to tackle it myself (I figure if it takes me 18 hours and I've got $100 in parts that I've paid myself $50/hour to get the job done.).
I printed off the Fuel System removal document from the Workshop Information System (WIS). Essentially, I needed to remove the intake manifold and fuel injection rail to get down to the heart of the matter. I went slow and took my time...not a bad job so far (but I hear removing the banjo bolts can be a pain).
After that, I'll need to assess the damage, obtain the appropriate parts, clean everything up, and put it all back together.
