I drained a good portion of the coolant tonight and then proceeded to:
a. remove the banjo bolts that secure the steel lines to the oil cooler.
b. remove the large nuts that secure the oil cooler to the cover plate.
c. remove the plate.
A couple notes: (1) draining the coolant was a great idea...would have been a big mess otherwise. (2) I did not drain the engine oil. Very little oil leaked out.
All went very well except for one of the large nuts that secure the oil cooler to the cover plate. The drivers side (left) nut came off easy. The passenger side (right) nut was extremely difficult. I used all the tricks in my memory to ease it off, but the aluminum threads on the oil cooler came with it. UG!!!!!! Other than that, the oil cooler looks fine. Time to spend some money.
The Catera CTS oil coolers look to be a dead ringer for ours...at a fraction of the price. I'm going to investigate that a bit further and see if it really will fit.
Onward and upward... :>

Greg Bender
