I'm sure there're some Midas mechanics who are good. But, if you decide to give them a chance, you're literally taking a chance and not a very good one IMHO.
Even if you find a good mechanic at Midas, chances are Saab is not so familiar to them as Toyota or Ford. Knowing that, you'd probably want to help the mechanic by giving pointers you learn from here. And still the biggest problem of them all is that the less knowledgeable they are, the less they want to hear what you have to say, and the more they are tempted to screw you over. I don't know maybe that's my psychology but I've seen too many bad mechanics assuming people don't know anything about the cars and expressing blatant disgust against all those wrong information on the 'internet'. OTOH, I could find a few good indies who were both good and receptable of my info from 'internet'.
One of the joys of owning a Saab and hanging out here in TSN is the sense of awareness of what's going on in my car and surprising level of accuracy of that awareness, which helps you fix your car at the first try. I have seen a lot of unnecessary tug-of-war b/w mechanics and drivers over problems both sides don't understand clearly. TSN greatly reduces those kind of uncertainty and I wish it were true but being able to simply trust any mechanics on Saab is anywhere b/w taking a chance and wishful thinking.
