I have had very good luck with Balise Auto body in West Springfield. They completely repainted my Toyota after a tree fell on it about eight years ago. I still have the car and the paint is fine. They discovered extra damage and got my insurance to pay for it.
In Mass, I am pretty sure that the person that hit you insurance will pay under the property damage section. In my experience adjusters reports are not firm. It is impossible to tell all of the damage without taking the car apart and often times additional damage is discovered. In my case the body shop went to the insurance company with the extra damage they found and the insurance company paid. It may be different with CT insurance. I think in your case the insurance company is bluffing trying to get off as cheap as possible. Don't let them bully you, they are very good at that. Also I am pretty sure under Mass law the insurance company cannot require you to use a particular body shop.
