These are numbers that are being published by auto testing magazines. I doubt that they have reason to lie or better yet,if they were to initially record numbers that they did not feel were correct, I am sure they would re test the car to confirm the first set of numbers.
As for the M-5, I have seen road tests for that car in the 4.7-4.8 second range for 0-60,so I cannot use that as a basis for discounting the Altima's numbers.
Quite frankly, even if the 5.9 second number is off a little,if the car is in the mid six range it is still pretty impressive.Do't forget, the car is not really a performance car in the total sense of the word. It is stacked up against bread and butter cars that are the equivalent of toaster ovens on wheels! Camry,Taurus,Accord? None of those are cars that a typical auto enthusiast goes to sleep dreaming about.
