AC blower/routing

I've got a problem that has developed in my 01 wagon. With the ACC in the dash vent mode and the fan on full blast, I barely get a trickle of air through the vents. If I shift to the floor vents, the windshield defrost vents start blowing hard. So I assume I've got a problem with whatever it is that is routing the air around. The previous time I noticed it I managed to get dash air blowing by cycling between the dash, floor, and windshield defrost vents, but now that method no longer works. Is there anything I can do myself to solve this or does it require a trip to a dealer/indy? I'm about an hour+ from the nearest dealership, so I would rather save the trip if I can.
