I'm assuming it's a V6 which uses a cam-belt. The engine is known as an "interference type" meaning if the cams/valves get out of time/sync with the crankshaft, the valves hit the pistons and severe damage results. The cam-belt, idler pulley, and tensioner MUST be replaced every 60,000 miles. Sometimes only the belt gets replaced and the tensioner fails later resulting in a destroyed engine. Make certain the cam belt AND tensioner/pulley was replaced at 60K miles! If there is any doubt, have these parts replaced now. It will cost $650-700 (not certain?) now and if a failure occurs, you are looking at a replacement engine! Sorry to spin on this topic but it's a killer of the V6 engine. It's a fun, solid, and safe car. Enjoy it.
