My experience with Michelins (2 sets of MXMs on my '94 900SET) is that they provided the best wear at the cost of traction. Wet traction with the MXMs was horrible. Also, the MXMs (back then, there were only 3 brands offering 205/50ZR16) were very $$$. I've used 2 sets of P7000 Summers which provded great traction, both wet and dry-but poor, uneven wear. Also tried P7000 SuperSports but their wear wasn't much better-despite the higher wear rating.
I've got Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Positions on my SET now (sporting 17" 9-5 Aero wheels). Traction is awesome, and the wear seems better-buit the jury is still out (only 6months old). My '01 9-5 wagon is brand new, so don't need to change the OEM Michelins. But MXVs are just awful in the rain. Like driving on ice, IMO. The compromise of having M+S tires instead of Summer performance tires (which I prefer, since I live in New Orleans).
People seem to choose to ignore the most important part of their vehicle-tires. Cheaper is better, seems the mantra.
